REGIONAL SPONSORED VISA

Applicants who have relatives living in these areas shown below can apply under the Skilled – Regional Sponsored (Provisional) visa.

This is a 3 year visa and you can apply for permanent residency after you have lived for 2 years and worked for 1 year in the region where your sponsor lives.

The passmark for this visa is currently 100 points. In addition you must be able to meet all basic criteria ie: be under 45, have an occupation on the SOL and have recent experience of at least 12 months in your nominated occupation and be sponsored by your relative. Your relative must have lived in the designated area for 12 months. Please note that provisional visa holders are not entitled to Medicare so you would need to take out private health insurance.

The following relatives can sponsor under this Skilled-Designated Area Sponsored visa class:- non-dependent child, parent, brother or sister, aunt/uncle, first cousin or a grandparent.

Applications lodged under the Skilled-Designated Area Sponsored visa class currently receive priority processing by DIMIA, which generally means that applications will be processed ahead of some other applications. Ironically, applicants who are granted visas in this visa class do not have to live in the designated area although the Australian Government hopes that applicants will go to where their family is living.
